OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A Kissimmee man died early Saturday after an SUV traveling the wrong way in Osceola County struck the Lynx bus he was riding, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. on South Poinciana Boulevard, north of Yorkshire Lane, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the bus — described as a “Lynx small transport bus” — was traveling northbound on South Poinciana Boulevard as the SUV traveled south in the northbound lane, driven by a 30-year-old Poinciana woman. With the SUV in the bus’ direct path, the bus driver swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a crash, the report states.

The front left and left side of the SUV struck the left side of the bus, causing the bus to overturn off the roadway onto its right side, troopers said.

The Poinciana woman and the three occupants of the bus were all hospitalized, the report states. From the bus, its driver — a 35-year-old Kissimmee man — and a 27-year-old Kissimmee man also on board were hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries, according to FHP. The Poinciana woman suffered serious injuries in the crash and a 33-year-old Kissimmee man who was on the bus during the wreck was pronounced dead at the hospital, troopers said, adding he was the only one not wearing a seat belt.

FHP is still investigating.
