OCOEE, Fla. – A pedestrian lying down on a roadway in Ocoee was fatally struck by a vehicle that left the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:44 p.m. Saturday on Ocoee Apopka Road, south of Demastus Lane, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 25-year-old Ocoee man — was lying down in the southbound lane and in the direct path of the vehicle when he was struck. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states, adding witnesses provided descriptions of the vehicle to Ocoee police.
In the area, officers later located a vehicle which matched witnesses’ descriptions, such as by having damage consistent to the crash, according to FHP. Troopers towed the vehicle to a secure storage area for processing and a criminal investigation is ongoing, the report states.
