The crash involved a 2006 Chevy Cobalt, a 2019 Subaru WRX and a 2018 Ford F-150.

According to a crash report, the 21-year-old was heading east in the Chevy when he failed to negotiate a curve and went into the westbound lanes in the path of the Suburu. The vehicles collided head-on.

The pickup truck tried to avoid the Suburu and struck the back left of the vehicle.

The 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and the Suburu driver, a 20-year-old Port Orange man, had minor injuries. The pickup driver, a 28-year-old DeLand man, was uninjured.

FHP said the 21-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt.

Troopers said both directions of CR-42 were closed but later reopened.

An investigation is ongoing.
