Driver grazed by bullet on I-4 in Polk County, sheriff’s office says

Shooting reported near ramps at SR-559 in Central Florida

PCSO

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A person driving on Interstate 4 in Polk County was grazed by a bullet that was fired by someone in another vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim said that a projectile flew through the driver’s side window of her truck and grazed her shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday while she traveled west at the ramps to State Road 559, between Polk City and Auburndale.

The driver was hospitalized, treated and released, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

Investigators believe the round was fired from someone traveling east on I-4, as well as that it could not have been fired from someone on the ground along the highway.

To a comment on social media asking if the sheriff’s office was sure it wasn’t road debris, the agency replied, “We are absolutely sure it’s a bullet.”

Anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area at that time is asked to call 863-298-6200 or contact Crime Stoppers.
