ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County sheriff's deputy was injured late Thursday when a car struck his cruiser as he was working traffic patrol for a nearby fatal wrong-way crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported at 11:30 p.m. Thursday on Colonial Drive near Tanner Road.
Deputy Brandon Parker, 29, of Orlando, suffered injuries and was taken to Florida Hospital East, troopers said.
The FHP said Donna Patterson, 59, of Orlando, was driving a 2001 Lexus east on Colonial Drive and failed to notice the cruiser, which had its emergency lights on.
The front of the Lexus struck the rear of the cruiser. Parker, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries, the FHP said.
Patterson, who was not injured, was ticketed for careless driving, troopers said.
Alcohol did not play a role in the crash, troopers said.
