Sandbag locations for Hurricane Hermine

ORLANDO, Fla. – With a tropical storm bearing down on the Sunshine State, Central Florida counties are preparing for the impact of the weather system.

FLAGLER COUNTY

"Palm Coast sand stations are self-serve – residents should bring their own shovels and be prepared to fill the bags," officials said. 

Resident who would like to pick up empty sandbags  can do so at the following locations:

• DAYS: Monday- Friday
• TIMES: 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., weather permitting
• LOCATION: Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE, (corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Club House Drive), Palm Coast
  Palm Coast City Hall, 160 Lake Ave., Palm Coast.
  Palm Coast Utility Department, 2 Utility Drive, Palm Coast.

Sandbags can be filled at two self-service sandbag locations.

LOCATION:

• Indian Trails Sports Complex, 5455 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast
• Seminole Woods Neighborhood Park, 350 Sesame Blvd., Palm Coast

Residents can also go to the self-service sand and sandbag station during daylight hours at Palm Coast Public Works Yard, 1 Wellfield Grade, off U.S. 1 just north of Palm Coast Parkway, Palm Coast.

SEMINOLE COUNTY

"Seminole County is monitoring the tropics," officials said.  "Since heavy rains are expected this week, sandbag operations will begin Tuesday."

The county later said that its sandbag operations will end at 7 p.m. Wednesday "due to the forecast."

Officials said residents can receive up to 30 sandbags.

"Dirt will be provided to fill the bags, but residents need to bring their own shovel," officials said.

The city of Altamonte Springs will be providing sand and bags for residents in the following locations.

• DAYS: Monday-Saturday
• TIMES: 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
• LOCATION: Westmonte Park, 624 Bills Lane (off Spring Oaks Blvd.)

• DAYS: Sunday
• TIMES: 8 a.m. -  dusk
• LOCATION: Westmonte Park, 624 Bills Lane (off Spring Oaks Blvd.)

MARION COUNTY

In preparation for tropical depression 9, the city of Ocala will open sandbag stations.

"Sandbags will be provided to city residents at no charge. The limit is 10 per resident," officials said. "We will continue to provide updates as they become available."

• TIMES: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
• LOCATIONS: Corner of 8th Avenue and 14th Street, just north of Tuscawilla Park and the corner of State Road 40 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, just east of the Hampton Center

Orange County Public Works will distribute sandbags on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its 8 locations.

LAKE COUNTY

"Lake County Emergency Management is tracking Tropical Depression 9 as it is forecast to strengthen during the next 48 hours and is expected to become a tropical storm today," officials said. 

The limit is 20 bags of sand  per resident, officials said. However, residents must bring their own shovels to the four participating Lake County fire stations.

The city of Clermont will also offer up to 10 sandbags per household, officials said. "The bags and sand are provided. If someone needs assistance, we will have staff who can help during those hours," officials said.

• DAYS:  Wednesday - Thursday
• TIMES: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
• LOCATIONS:  Public Works Department located at 400 12th St. in Clermont, Florida

VOLUSIA COUNTY

Daytona Beach

The City of Daytona Beach is offering sandbags to residents through Friday at the Public Works facility, 950 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach.

Bags and sand are available. Residents will need to bring their own shovels. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household.

Daytona Beach Shores

The City of Daytona Beach Shores has bags available to residents, but no sand will be provided. Residents must show their ID. There is a limit of three bags per person and 10 bags per condo association. Bags are available until 4:30 p.m. today at the following locations:

● Daytona Beach Shores City Hall, 2990 S. Atlantic Ave.
● Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department, 3050 S. Atlantic Ave.

Deltona

The City of Deltona will offer sandbags until 4 p.m. Thursday at Festival Park, 191 Howland Blvd., Deltona. The park is adjacent to Wal-Mart and behind the Public Works Depot. Residents will be provided 11 filled sandbags and can have an additional 11 empty bags to fill at home if necessary.

Edgewater

The City of Edgewater has sand available while supplies last. Residents must bring their own shovels and bags. Double-lined trash bags work just as well as sandbags. Sand is available at the following locations 24 hours a day: 

● Station #57, 2628 Hibiscus Ave.
● Menard-May Park, 413 S. Riverside Drive
● Mango Tree Lake, 901 Mango Tree Drive  
● Airpark Road Staging area, 1989 Airpark Road

Holly Hill

The City of Holly Hill has sand and bags available in front of the Public Works Department, 453 LPGA Blvd. Sand will be available 24 hours a day until the storm has passed. Residents must bring shovels and fill their bags.

New Smyrna Beach

City residents may pick up sand and bags from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

through Friday at the New Smyrna Beach Maintenance Operations Department, 124 Industrial Park Ave. Residents must bring shovels and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household; ID is required. For more information, residents may call 386-424-2209 during business hours.

Oak Hill

The City of Oak Hill has sand available, which can be picked up until 5 p.m. today at City Hall, 234 U.S. Hwy. 1, Oak Hill. Residents must supply their own bags and shovel.

Port Orange

The City of Port Orange has sand and bags available to the community while supplies last. Residents must bring shovels to fill their bags.

Double-lined trash bags work just as well as sandbags. For more information, call the Public Works Department at 386-506-5575. The sand and bags are available at the city’s fire stations 24 hours a day:

South Daytona

The City of South Daytona has sand and bags available from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday at the Public Works operations yard, 1770 S. Seagrave St. Residents must bring their own shovels to fill their bags.
