ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring three tropical storms and two disturbances as the peak of hurricane season nears.
While there are several tropical systems in the Atlantic as of Monday, none of them will directly impact Florida.
Tropical storms Emily, Franklin and Gert formed in the Atlantic over the weekend, but all three are going to be short-lived.
According to forecasters, Emily — located west-northwest of the Cabo Verde islands — is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone by Monday evening and has no threat to land.
Franklin is about 235 miles south of the Dominican Republic and is expected to turn north later Monday or early Tuesday, reaching the southern coast of Hispaniola late Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Gert is losing strength and is expected to become a remnant low later Monday and dissipate on Tuesday.

An area in the Gulf of Mexico was designated as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine and is likely to form into a become a tropical storm before it reaches the Texas coast. Coastal flooding is possible along the south Texas coast Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
The NHC is also monitoring a disturbance near the Cabo Verde islands that is expected to form into a tropical depression later this week as it moves west-northwest across the Atlantic. Formation chances are 40% in the next two days and 70% in the next week.
The next named storm of the season will be Harold.
Hurricane season runs through the end of November.
