ORLANDO, Fl. – Although hurricane season officially kicks off on June 1, the NHC has been issuing outlooks earlier in recent years to account for early activity, a trend that began in 2021.
On Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center released its first daily tropical weather outlook, which is issued every six hours from May 15 - Nov. 30 at 2 a.m., 8 a.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m. EDT.
The latest update from the NHC as of 8 a.m. May 15 shows no development in the next seven days.

In addition to Wednesday’s (May 15) outlook, there was an earlier one issued on April 24, when a brief tropical disturbance appeared about 900 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. However, it had a very low chance of developing into a significant storm and quickly dissipated.
Since 2003, there have been 15 tropical cyclones forming before June 1, with two emerging in April. Although most pre-season storms arise in May, twice in the last 20 years, a tropical cyclone has developed in the Atlantic basin in January, such as Hurricane Alex in 2016.
