ORLANDO, Fla. – While activity across much of the tropics remains limited, Wednesday’s 8 a.m. update from the National Hurricane Center has highlighted a broad low-pressure system off the southeast coast of the U.S.

As of Wednesday morning, environmental conditions remain marginally favorable for some additional development of this system over the next couple of days before it moves west into Florida/Georgia through the end of the week.

The National Hurricane Center is giving it a 10% chance for potential tropical development in the next two to seven days.

As this broad disturbance approaches the east coast of Florida on Thursday, a chance for showers and storms will increase areawide with coverage up to 70-80%.

The latest forecast models shows activity developing into the mid-morning to late afternoon hours with favorable conditions for waterspouts to develop along the east coast waters along with gusty winds of up to 40-50 miles per hour, lightning and locally heavy rainfall (1-3 inches possible).
