Steamy, stormy setup through the weekend in Central Florida

Expect scattered afternoon showers to focus west of I-95

ORLANDO, Fla. – A weak front north of Florida will continue to keep the state under a steamy and stormy setup through the weekend.

Each afternoon and early evening, expect scattered showers and storms along the daily sea breeze development, with the highest chances focused for areas west of Interstate 95. Rain chances sit at 60-70% inland and a 30-40% along the coastline.

Saturday Rain Chances

Slow-moving storms each afternoon could result in upwards of 2-3 inches of rain accumulations along with lightning and gusty winds.

Before the rain cools conditions down a bit, expect another hot afternoon with highs running above normal in the mid-to-low 90s. The hottest readings will be felt inland as the heat index nears 103-107 degrees.

Saturday Heat Index

Along with slightly drier days along the beaches, beachgoers should continue to monitor the coloring of the flags as a moderate-to-high risk of rip currents remains the biggest threat.

As you try and beat the heat in the water, make sure to always swim by a staffed lifeguard tower and know how to properly spot and escape a rip current.

Little change in the forecast is expected as we head into next week as our large-scale weather pattern remains a bit stagnant. Rainy season conditions will continue with rain coverage at 60% and highs hovering above average in the mid to low 90s.

TROPICS:

As of Saturday morning, the tropics remain calm and quiet as a large plume of Saharan dust remains the dominant feature across the majority of the tropical Atlantic. The presence of this dust is quite common this time of the year, helping to suppress significant tropical development over the next seven days.

Saturday Saharan Dust

Some of the Saharan Dust Layer (SAL) will continue to stream over the Sunshine State this weekend, creating some extra vivid sunrises and sunsets!
