Cold front stalls out, brings storms to Central Florida

High chance of storms, residual impacts from Ernesto expected

Steamy, stormy setup

ORLANDO, Fla. – A cold front with plenty of dry air behind it will unfortunately stall over Central Florida this week, keeping the area on the warm and unsettled side.

The forecast calls for an enhanced chance of storms with rain chances upward of 60% to 70% each day each afternoon. The main hazards will be lightning, gusty winds (40-50mph) and even coastal waterspouts.

As the front stalls, models develop a low along the boundary in the Gulf of Mexico added more moisture and instability to the area through the end of the week and into the weekend.

Highs in the meantime will remain near to above average in the mid to low 90s with feels like temperatures between 100-107 degrees.

Tracking Ernesto

Hurricane Ernesto remains an organized tropical system moving further into the northern Atlantic. Forecast cone shows it weakening into a remnant low as it tracks closer to Europe later this week.

Central Florida will still see residual impacts on our coastline from Ernesto with a high risk of rip currents still in place.
