ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is expected to experience scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms for another day Wednesday, with a significant chance of localized flooding in some areas.
A flood watch remains in effect for Flagler County until midnight due to excessive runoff potentially leading to higher riverways and waterways.
Forecast models show afternoon storms building between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with heavier downpours from the west starting around 6 p.m. and lingering through 10 p.m. Rain chances for Wednesday are at 70%, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s.
The looking-down range, rain chances are expected to remain high but are expected to trend towards near-average or below-average levels by early next week.
Hurricane Francine
As Hurricane Francine, which was officially named a hurricane Tuesday, continues its track toward the coast of Louisiana, it is expected to make landfall as a Category 2 hurricane by late Wednesday with sustained winds of 100 mph.
The storm is then projected to weaken into a depression and a remnant low as it moves into Tennessee by the early part of next week.
Other tropical areas of interest
In addition to Hurricane Francine, we are also monitoring two other areas in the tropics.
One area, designated as invest 92L, has a 30% chance of development. The other area has an 80% chance of development and could be named Gordon if it continues to organize.
