Tropical storm to develop in Atlantic; hurricane center watches 2 other areas

Tropical Depression 7 expected to strengthen

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Depression 7 is expected to strengthen and become a tropical storm at some pointing the next couple of days in the Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of Thursday night, TD 7 has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and is moving west-northwest at 16 mph. It is about 875 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The NHC is also monitoring two other areas.

Invest 94L, east of the Leeward Islands, is not expected to develop as it encounters dry air. It has a 20% chance of development.

Another area a few hundred miles off the southeastern U.S. coastline could have some subtropical or tropical development early next week as it heads north. It has a 30% chance of development.

The next name on the list is Gordon.

Hurricane season runs through November.
