Few scattered afternoon storms in Central Florida. Here’s your forecast

Expect scattered showers, thunderstorms this afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida on Monday will see a few scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms but thankfully, it won’t be nearly as intense as the tropical downpours and flooding we have seen over the past two weeks.

Today’s high temperatures will be near normal, around 90 degrees, with a 40% chance of rain increasing by 1-2 p.m. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will primarily develop along the west coast sea breeze, favoring areas from I-4 toward the east in the afternoon.

In tropics news, Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 is expected to bring tropical moisture to parts of the Carolinas, potentially evolving into a tropical storm and making landfall later tonight. If it is named, it would be called Helene.

Although the tropical focus is on the Carolinas, Central Florida will still feel indirect impacts from it along our coastline.

There is a high risk of rip currents and a coastal flood warning for beachside communities, particularly during high tide, which could lead to minor flooding. Additionally, there is a small craft advisory with seas expected to be around 4 to 6 feet Monday afternoon.

Expect a dry and muggy night with lows in the mid 70s. Also tonight, don’t forget to lookout for tonight’s supermoon, which happens to also be a partial lunar eclipse. It won’t be a stunner of an eclipse as only about 8% of the moon will be covered.
