Odds are increasing for a potential system developing in the Gulf of Mexico

Conditions will be favorable for potential tropical development next week

Saturday 8 p.m. Update

ORLANDO, Fl. – As of 8 p.m. Saturday, the NHC has now placed a 70% chance for tropical development in the next 7 days in the northwestern Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

A large area of low pressure is likely to form next week in the highlighted red regions. Conditions look good for it to develop into a tropical depression as it moves north. Regardless of development, it could bring gusty winds, rough seas, and heavy rain to Central America and Mexico next week.

Keep in mind that until there’s a formation, weather models will vary regarding time, intensity and path.

The latest weather models suggest the system could move east or northeast toward Florida’s panhandle late this week, but this could change.

Please keep an eye on updates in the coming days as things become clearer. Everyone from Louisiana to Florida should stay tuned for updates.
