Central Florida goes through more than 2 dozen tornado warnings during Hurricane Milton

Milton makes landfall on Florida Gulf Coast as major hurricane

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Milton officially made landfall near Siesta Key as a Category 3 hurricane on Wednesday evening, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Milton move through Central Florida and will entering the Atlantic on Thursday.

Tornado warnings, which have since expired, dominated Wednesday afternoon in Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Polk counties.

From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 27 tornado warnings were issued, 23 of which were issued in a four-hour span.

  • 9 in Brevard County
  • 9 in Polk County
  • 5 in Osceola County
  • 4 in Orange County

Florida Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie said tornadoes in Florida destroyed 125 homes in Fort Pierce.

The weather will significantly improve by Friday morning.

  • Sebastian Inlet Florida to Altamaha Sound Georgia, including the St. Johns River
