ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. John’s River near Sanford and the Little Wekiva River near Altamonte Springs are showing concerning water levels.
The water level at St. John’s River is currently 5.96 feet and is expected to rise to 7.7 feet by early next week.
Meanwhile, the Little Wekiva River is experiencing a major flood stage with water levels at 29.96 feet. Unfortunately, these levels are set to persist over the coming days, leading to potentially catastrophic incidents for local residents.
While the absence of rain is promising for those dealing with flood aftermaths, residents in affected areas are warned to remain prepared for further rises in water levels.
Emergency services are advising all residents in critical flood zones to stay informed and cautious as they are at risk of facing more severe conditions.
As Central Florida continues to deal with flood concerns, a cool and breezy weather pattern is providing some temporary relief. Northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph have ushered in dry air, significantly reducing rain chances. This comes as a reprieve for those involved in cleanup activities following the recent flooding events.
Strong winds are expected through today causing coastal concerns. A high rip current risk and high surf advisory remains in place through Friday.
Daily highs for Friday are projected to be in the low-to-mid 80s, with Orlando observing 84 degrees and surrounding areas like Kissimmee and Cocoa Beach seeing similar temperatures.
Dry air is expected to linger around the peninsula through the weekend keep the weather pleasant. It’ll remain less muggy with afternoon highs in the upper 80s.
