Hurricane Rafael increasing rain chances in Central Florida. Here’s what to expect

Main threats will be brief tropical downpours

ORLANDO, Fla. – It is going to be feeling a lot like summer across Central Florida has the heat, humidity and tropical moisture returns for your Wednesday as Hurricane Rafael enters the Gulf of Mexico.

Wednesday

Tropical moisture will deepen from the south, ahead of Rafael, as rain coverage increases locally to 30-40%. Main threats for today will be brief tropical downpours and even an isolated rumble of thunder through the day.

While Wednesday’s temperatures remain slightly above average in the mid 80s, the added humidity will make it feel like the mid 90s.

Expect another day of hazardous beach and marine conditions. A high risk of rip currents and rough surf with breaking waves of 5-7 feet likely.

Thursday-Saturday:

The same large of ridge of high pressure that is keeping Rafael away from Florida will reinstate slightly drier conditions for the end of the week with coverage down to 10-20%.

Sunday-Next Week:

Added moisture will creep into the area early Sunday and into early next week ahead of a weak tropical system in the Atlantic.

Isolated showers will be possible (20-30%) Sunday and Monday. A weak “cool” front could move into the area late Monday veering winds more northerly by Tuesday. This will help bring back more comfortable conditions, while keeping highs in the mid 80s.
