Warm, breezy ahead of next system that could bring rain, storms to Central Florida. Here’s what to know

Rain chances ramp up this weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. – As high pressure builds in across the area on Thursday, expect breezy conditions today with winds at 10-15 mph and then gustier weather Friday as the high strengthens.

Winds will increase to 15-20 mph by Friday afternoon, with gusts up to 25 mph, especially along the coast.

With dry air sticking around and no rain in sight, fire weather conditions will stay a concern.

Temperature-wise, the onshore winds will keep things more comfortable. Coastal areas will see highs in the upper 70s, while inland spots will reach the low 80s.

Weekend outlook

This weekend, the ridge will shift eastward, causing winds to turn more southeasterly. That means we’ll start seeing more moisture moving into the area by Saturday. Dew points will increase, and by Saturday afternoon, expect some scattered showers and storms, mainly south of Orlando. The chances for rain will range from 20-25% during the day, increasing to 50-60% by Sunday.

Sunday looks like the most active day. Deeper moisture will settle in, and a passing weather system will bring the highest chances of rain we’ve seen in a while.

We’re expecting scattered to numerous showers, especially during Sunday afternoon, with a few thunderstorms mixed in. Some isolated lightning storms and a couple of strong wind gusts are possible, especially near the coast. Showers will likely linger into Sunday night, especially from Cape Canaveral southward.

Temperatures will creep up a bit this weekend. Highs will reach the low 80s at the coast and mid-80s inland.

Next week

Looking ahead to next week, a cold front moving down from the north will bring some unsettled weather. The front is expected to stall as it reaches Florida, though the exact location is still a bit uncertain.

This means we’ll keep the chance of isolated to scattered showers through the start of the week. Highs will continue to rise into the mid to upper 80s, with mild overnight lows staying in the mid to upper 60s.

Stay tuned for updates as we monitor this developing weather pattern!
