18-year-old shot in Daytona Beach while walking to school

Victim taken to Halifax Hospital with leg wound

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – An 18-year-old was shot Wednesday morning in Daytona Beach while walking to school, police said.

The shooting happened around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Brentwood and Derbyshire roads.

Daytona Beach police said the victim, whose name was not released, was shot in the leg and taken to Halifax Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said they found surveillance video showing a red vehicle approach the victim. The video shows the driver and the victim have an interaction before the car suddenly speeds off and the victim is seen running away, according to police.

Officers said they also located a victim who was able to identify Willie B. Richardson, 23, as the driver of the car from a photo line-up. Investigators said Richardson is the owner of a red Kia Forte.

Richardson was arrested and faces charges of discharging a firearm from a vehicle, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
