ORLANDO, Fla. – Rapper Kodak Black was booked into the Orange County Jail following an arrest on a felony drug trafficking charge.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bill Kapri — known professionally as Kodak Black — on a charge of trafficking in MDMA, according to Orange County Jail records.
A deputy also noticed a white substance on a $100 bill inside a Lamborghini SUV that smelled of cannabis.
On Thursday afternoon, a judge set a high bond of $75,000 for the 28-year-old. The bond was set high, because of Kapri’s 12 previous felony convictions.
“The state would actually ask that you increase the bond because the defendant is a professional rapper,” the assistant state attorney said.
The defense attorney retorted, “The fact that he’s a rapper doesn’t give you a legal purpose to raise the bond.”
The judge responded, “I am going to increase the bond, not for the fact that you’re a rapper. I think that has no binding. But the other factors that the court considered is your prior criminal history, including 12 prior felony convictions.”
He later bonded out.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the arrest stems from an incident in November of 2025, at the Children’s Safety Village on Fairvilla Road.
Police say they were investigating calls about gunshots and found two vehicles there. After smelling freshly burnt cannabis, the officer searched the vehicles, finding a pink bag that contained what appeared to be MDMA. According to the affidavit, the bag is the same one seen on Black’s Instagram account, along with other paraphernalia, like a pair of scissors and a lighter.
Police said testing by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed the substance in the pink bag was MDMA, and was considered to be a trafficking amount. That report came back on April 17, 2026.
In court on Thursday, an attorney for Kapri suggested the case was flimsy.
“On my way here, on the train, I was typing up a motion to dismiss. The is not enough here,” the defense attorney said.
Ambrosia Healy and Kevin Young, who represent Kapri at Universal Music Group, didn’t respond to an email from the Associated Press seeking comment.
Kapri has faced previous legal issues.
In 2023, police in Plantation, Florida arrested Kapri after finding him asleep at the wheel with white powder around his mouth, officials said. Although authorities said the powder initially tested positive for cocaine, a lab test later revealed it was oxycodone, for which Kapri obtained a prescription.
The arrest was a violation of his probation from an unrelated case, which led to him being locked up in Miami for two months.
Kapri was also arrested in 2022 on charges of trafficking in oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was freed on bond with regular drug testing as a condition of his release. Kapri was ordered into drug rehab for 30 days in 2023 after missing a drug test and then testing positive for fentanyl several days later, according to court records.
In January 2021, then-President Donald Trump commuted a three-year federal prison sentence the rapper had for falsifying documents used to buy weapons. Kapri had served about half his sentence.
As Kodak Black, Kapri has sold more than 30 million singles, with massive hits such as “Super Gremlin,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022.
