ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orlando Police Department said a Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation agent was involved in an officer-involved shooting near the Florida Mall around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at the Target parking lot near the mall.
Police said the suspect and the officer were transported to a hospital.
Investigators said the suspect is in critical condition.
Authorities said officer has minor injuries.
"A bad guy was shot and our officer was also injured," said Lt. Wanda Miglio with The Orlando Police Department. "This was just an undercover detail that was going on that our officer was involved with."
Lt. Miglio said that it's a multi-agency investigation.
"Orange County Sheriff's Office is assisting us with this investigation. As you know, all officer involved shootings are investigated by Florida Department of Law Enforcement."
Emily Handy said that she was shopping inside the Target with their daughter when they heard the commotion outside.
"We were in the store for about 45 minutes and we just heard a bunch of sirens, which is kind of normal on Sand Lake Road, so we didn't even think anything about it. It was when we came out to walk to the car that we realized that something else was going on," said Handy.
