PHOENIX – A man was caught on video climbing out of a moving roller coaster in Arizona after, he claims, the safety bar became unlatched, KPNX-TV reported.
Cellphone video captured the crazy incident, which occurred Sunday at Castles N’ Coasters in Phoenix.
The man told KPNX-TV that he was on Desert Storm, a double-looping roller coaster, when the lap bar malfunctions just after after the ride started.
“We start the climb, and you hear the click of the chain of the normal roller coaster,” the man told KPNX-TV. “We get just about to the top and I hear a click different from the click of the chain taking us up and so, I checked my lap bar one last time and it released.”
The man said he then just reacted.
“It was just adrenaline, and I didn’t want to die that day,” he said. “As soon as the lap bar went up, I just didn’t really think about it, I just jumped out.”
The man was able to make his way to an emergency staircase, where climbed down to safety.
The man said he was offered a refund, but the park has not commented about the incident.
