Facebook recently introduced a new sound that has left millions of users questioning its purpose.

Some users, not aware of the update, have been left thinking, “Why is Facebook chirping when I scroll?”

The latest sound emerged with the latest Facebook update on iPhones.

It’s intention is to make scrolling more engaging and interactive, according to Dataconomy.

While some users have welcomed the new sound, a growing number find it to be an annoying distraction from the traditionally silent scrolling experience.

For users seeking relief from the chirping soundtrack, this is the process to disable the feature:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your phone
  2. Access the menu by tapping the the three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner
  3. Navigate to “Settings & Privacy”
  4. Select “Settings”
  5. Locate “Media” and scroll down
  6. Within the “Sounds” section, turn off the switch to “In-App Sounds”
