Deadline to claim $36 million Mega Millions jackpot expires. Here’s where the money goes

Florida Lottery says 80% of money will fund education

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Lottery has confirmed that the deadline for claiming a $36 million Mega Millions winning ticket expired Sunday.

The winning Quick Pix ticket was purchased at the Publix at 4495 Roosevelt Blvd. in Jacksonville.

The winning numbers from the Aug. 15 drawing were 18, 39, 42, 57, 63, MB 7 Multiplier: 3x.

Winners have 180 days to come forward, but no one ever did in this instance.

Despite the Lottery’s efforts to locate the winner, the jackpot prize remained unclaimed. According to officials, 80% of the $36 million will go into an education fund and the rest will be placed back into the prize pool.

The Florida Lottery has contributed over $45 billion to enhance education and send more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, according to officials.

Any Florida Lottery retailer can validate the winning ticket, but the Mega Millions jackpot prize must be claimed at a Lottery District Office.

Mega Millions is an American multijurisdictional lottery game offered in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
