APOPKA, Fla. – Hidden in one Central Florida neighborhood is an unusual-looking home: one that looks like a castle from the front.
That home — located at 446 Songbird Way in Apopka — is now up for sale, meaning that the home could soon be in new hands.

Located along Lake McCoy, the nearly 5,500-square-foot home features a double-doored four-car garage, which allows the owner to drive through to the lake out back.
It also features four bedrooms and bathrooms, a screened-in pool, along with an open-concept kitchen and living room space.
But the most notable feature is the 33-foot-tall turret that greets people as they come through its front door.
The homeowner, Mike Cooper, told News 6 that he and his father built the house back in 1989, though he wasn’t sure why they placed the turret there.
“Dad just did what he does, you know? Sometimes, he comes up with things like that, and that’s just how it ended up,” Cooper said.
However, Cooper explained that his home has gotten plenty of attention since it was finished.
“Mostly, people just stop outside. During the summertime — I guess since that’s when we’re out more, you’re out there doing the yard or whatever you’re doing — people just stop and say, ‘I love your house! Can we take a picture?’” he stated.
Along with the “castle-like home,” Cooper (who works as the vice president of the family-run Cooper Construction) is responsible for helping build nine of the houses in the Lake McCoy Forests neighborhood.
According to Cooper, his family originally sold the home in 1990, though after the homeowner passed away in 2005, Cooper moved back — specifically, from the house across the street.
But now, he and his wife are looking to sell the two-story home in favor of a one-story building just down the street.
The home’s list price is set at over $1.2 million — a steep price for some — though it comes with the following features:
- First-floor master bedroom: With master bathroom and door leading out to the screened-in pool
- Second-floor bedroom: With a view of the foyer and its own bathroom
- Second-floor bedroom: With its own walk-in bathroom (featuring alligator insignias on the floor)
- Second-floor bedroom: Spanning around 182 square feet with a view of Lake McCoy
- Double staircase: Leads upstairs from the foyer and living room
- Skylights: Found at the top of the double staircase
- First-floor living room: Carpeted space leading into the home’s kitchen and backyard pool
- Kitchen: With porcelain tile, a breakfast bar, cooking island and granite counters
