ORLANDO, Fla. – Higher oil prices have pushed up costs at the pump this week ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The national average for a gallon of gasoline rose 5 cents per gallon over the last week, and remains on par with prices seen this same time last year.
“While the increases have been fairly tame, with oil continuing to hold above $80 per barrel, we could continue to see the national average climb slightly,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a statement Monday.

Analysts are also watching Hurricane Beryl, which strengthened over the weekend. The storm is forecast to hit Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula before potentially veering off toward Texas, which is home to a concentration of oil refining infrastructure.
Any damage to infrastructure this hurricane season could spell pain at the pump for drivers nationwide.
