Convicted rapist sentenced to life in prison

Wife begged for lesser sentence

ORLANDO, Fla. – The man convicted of breaking into an apartment near the University of Central Florida and raping a girl multiple times was sentenced to life in prison Friday.

The judge sentenced Joel Pappas to the maximum sentences, four consecutive life sentences in prison, for all four counts he was charged on.

Pappas's family in court Friday begged the judge to give him the minimum sentence.

Pappas's wife, who has been with him for 15 years, apologized to the victim but told the judge she didn't want her children to be without their father.

The minimum sentence he could have faced was 25 years in prison. If the judge would've ruled that way prosecutors say they would have asked for chemical castration.
