Car crashes into pond off 408 exit after trooper pursuit

Man charged with DUI, fleeing and alluding, officials say

Orlando, Fla. – A man is in serious condition after officials say he crashed his car into a pond off of 408, while speeding at 100 miles per hour during a trooper pursuit.

Troopers say 27-year-old James Maddux was driving his black Honda through a construction zone when a trooper tried to pull him over just before 3 a.m.

Maddux then sped off reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour, authorities say. He then attempted to get off of 408 at Alafaya Trail when he lost control of his car and overturned in a retention pond, according to the incident report.

Maddux was ejected from the car, deputies said. He and and his 17-year-old passenger were transported to the hospital. Maddux is listed in serious condition, the passenger has minor injuries.

Maddux is being charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and alluding, suspension of his driver's license, according to deputies.

He will be transported to the Orange County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
