The march is the latest to happen in the wake of George Zimmerman being acquitted of second-degree murder in Trayvon Martin's death.

The "march against gun violence" started at Lake Eola at 6 p.m. Wednesday, as hundreds headed to the Orange County courthouse.

City of Orlando transportation crews were out Wednesday morning setting up barricades along the planned march route in downtown.

"This is a people's movement, just like the arrest of George Zimmerman was," said march organizer Shayan Modarres. "People feel passionately about this case and they're willing to come down and demonstrate peacefully in protest and show support for the cause. We really need a change."

The flier said the rally would feature guest speakers. Martin family attorney Natalie Jackson was also expected to speak, possibly along with attorney Benjamin Crump.

"Bring your signs, shirts, family and help participate in a peaceful awareness rally in Orlando," the flier read.

The event was organized by Modarres Law Firm in Orlando and AJ The Klassic.

Orlando police told Local 6 they were ready to handle a large crowd based on their experience with similar events in the past.
