Man kicked out of Universal Orlando over T-shirt

'Sophie's Security' shirt causes controversy at park

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man claims he was kicked out of Universal Orlando because of the shirt he was wearing.

The shirt Cameron Conner, of Bushnell, was wearing at the park over the weekend says, "Sophie's Security."

Sophie is his 4-year-old daughter, and the shirt was meant to be a joke, Conner said.

Conner says before he and his family made it to the SpiderMan ride at Islands of Adventure on Saturday, they were stopped by security guards at City Walk.

"I'm like, 'Are you serious right now?  I said, 'What is wrong with my shirt?'" Conner told Local 6.

"I'm standing in the rain with an umbrella and my 1-year-old, pushing a stroller, thinking, 'This is ridiculous,'" said Cindy Conner, Cameron's wife.

Conner claims he was told to buy another shirt but was again stopped in a gift shop and escorted out of the park.  He said he doesn't know why guest services employees changed their minds and asked him to leave instead of allowing him to buy a new shirt.

Universal released a statement to Local 6, saying, "For everyone's safety and to prevent confusion, we do not allow guests to wear shirts with words such as 'police' or 'security' inside our parks."

"I think guest services could have de-escalated that entire situation before they started calling in security officers and everything else," Conner said.
