Man stealing copper wire electrocuted, Orange County deputies say

Duke Energy worker finds body along State Road 408 in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man attempting to steal copper from a light pole along State Road 408 in Orange County was electrocuted, according to sheriff's deputies.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said Terry Duane Bowers' body was found by a Duke Energy worker around 9:45 a.m. Friday in a wooded area on the eastbound side of the highway near Good Homes Road.

Deputies said Bowers cut a cable and was electrocuted.  He was found holding a pair of pliers and wires and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said Duke Energy was notified of an outage in the area, and a worker sent to repair the pole found the body.

Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson said there have been other similar thefts in the area, including some along State Road 417.
