Orlando attorney Dan Newlin to represent family of girl killed in crash

Kaila Strucke died after October 8 wreck in Altamonte Springs

ORLANDO, Fla. – A prominent Orlando attorney will represent the family of an 8-year-old Altamonte Springs girl who died after being struck by a pickup truck in early October.

Dan Newlin said he will look into whether a traffic signal malfunction contributed to the October 8 crash in which Kaila Strucke was critically injured.  She later died of her injuries.

The crash occurred in the crosswalk at West Town Parkway and Bunnell Road.  Witnesses told police that Kaila was with her father and dog when she darted away from them and was struck by the vehicle.

Altamonte Springs police said the driver had a green light when Kaila was hit and will not face any charges.

Kaila's dad, Jeremy Strucke, said the crosswalk signal was informing them that they had the right of way when the crash occurred. Altamonte Springs police, however, said an investigation showed that the crosswalk signal was functioning properly.

Newlin told Local 6 that he's also investigating whether a power outage in the area before the crash had any effect on the wreck.

Newlin noted that the family isn't "out for justice" and is just looking for answers.
