WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – A Thanksgiving tradition in Winter Garden ended with one person shot and an Orange County sheriff's deputy's cruiser riddled with bullets.
The shooting occurred Thursday night near the corner of Bethune Avenue and East Bay Street.
Every year, a block party is held in Winter Garden to celebrate Thanksgiving, and 1,000 showed up this year, according to deputies.
Nearby residents called authorities about the noise from the party, and deputies said when they arrived, about a dozen shots were fired and a deputy cruiser was hit three times.
A man was also struck by a bullet, said deputies, who added that the victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center but was expected to be OK.
The block party typically runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., deputies said.
No other details have been released.
