17-year-old girl taken to hospital with serious injuries

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – A semitrailer driver ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck, injuring a 17-year-old girl and forcing officials to close a roadway for hours in Lake County, officials said.

The crash happened around 7 a.m. Friday on North Orange Blossom Trail at Sadler Avenue.  The roadway reopened about four hours later.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Kenny Acosta, 31, of Miami, was driving a semi pulling an open trailer filled with construction debris when he ran a red light on OBT, crashing into the pickup, which was traveling westbound on Sadler Avenue.

The teen driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, troopers said.

The semi overturned after striking the pickup, spilling debris onto OBT.
