Video released in Orlando officer-involved shooting with teenage car theft suspect

Officer shot at teen accused of stealing vehicle

ORLANDO, Fla.

Orlando police released video on Monday of an officer-involved shooting involving a teenage suspect and a stolen vehicle.

Trevon Lamons, 17, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and grand theft in the Jan. 16 incident on North Lane.

Orlando police say officers tried to stop the white Charger shortly after midnight, but as the officers got out of their vehicle, the driver, identified as Lamons, tried to strike one of the officers with the vehicle, which was stolen out of Orange County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction.

Authorities said the officer, identified as Officer Jonathan Mills, fired at Lamons. Lamons was later apprehended after he crashed into an abandoned home and taken to the hospital.

Video released on Monday showed two vantage points of the moments leading up to Mills discharging his firearm - one from his body camera and the other from store surveillance video.

Mills has been with Orlando Police Department since 2012. He is on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducts an investigation.
Mills was not hurt during the incident.

Lamons' criminal history includes felony arrests for vehicle theft and burglary. He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
