ORLANDO, Fla. – A single mother of three was presented with a pair of bunk beds for her children Friday morning.
The bed was built by Orange County inmates and donated to The Mustard Seed program, which provides furniture to more than 1,300 families per year.
The Mustard Seed’s slogan is “Every child deserves a bed to sleep in.”
Thanks to the program and Orange County inmates, two young boys and one little girl will have a place to rest their heads tonight.
"We hope the kids enjoy this, these new bunk beds and it gives them a place to lay their head while their waiting for Santa to return to them on Christmas Eve, so that will be nice,” said Bryan Holt, Orange County Corrections deputy chief.
The family that received the bed just moved to the area from Arkansas and didn’t have much when they arrived.
What little furniture they did have was damaged during the move.
Joseph Mowery, chairman of Central Florida’s Mustard Seed program, was thankful for the inmates’ hard work to give back and bring the family a better holiday.
"During the holiday season, this family is going to have a child and kids sleeping in beds and that’s only due to the partnership of the Orange County Correctional Department,” Mowery said.
Family members say they are very grateful for the bed, but they still need a washer and dryer.
