Police believe break-ins could be related to Altamonte Springs burglaries

MAITLAND, Fla. – More than 30 vehicles were broken into in two Maitland apartment complexes Saturday morning, police said.

Officers said they were called to Park Lake Townhomes and the Courtney at Lake Shadow apartment complex after 33 cars were burglarized. Police said 15 vehicle burglaries took place at Park Lake Townhomes, and 18 other burglaries, as well as four attempted vehicle burglaries, happened at the Courtney between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.

"When I wake up I see my passenger glass opened," Manuel Gonzalez said.

Nothing was taken from his SUV, but replacing his window cost $200.

(They took) nothing," he said. "I don't know why (they) broke the window, but (they took) nothing."

Gonzalez said his neighborhood experienced vehicle burglaries about the same time last year. Now he's considering installing a security camera to try to prevent the same thing from happening again.

"This can't happen again,” Gonzalez said. "It's a good neighborhood, good people living here. I don't want to see this more.”

Police said there was no surveillance video immediately available, but a witness told police they saw four people dressed in dark-colored clothes smash one vehicle's windows before leaving the area in a small red Ford SUV.

Most of the victims did not have personal belongings stolen during the burglaries, police said.

Maitland police said investigators are working with the Altamonte Springs Police Department to determine whether the burglaries are related to vehicle burglaries that occurred in Altamonte Springs Friday.
