HOUSTON – After sustaining more than 2 feet of radar-indicated rain from Tropical Storm Harvey in their area, Houston bakers trapped in their shop spent their downtime making pan dulce bread for flood victims.
In a post shared on its Facebook page Sunday morning, El Bolillo Bakery said the shop is “closed until further notice, but our bakers cooked all night long and we will be prepared to help as soon as we can with bread.”

On Monday, the bakery said their bakers were “stuck inside for two days” at their Wayside bakery shop, located just five miles southeast of downtown Houston.
The area of where the shop is located has received over 20 inches of rain from Harvey in the past couple of days.
However, help from all over the state including across the nation have traveled to the Harvey affected areas, hoping to volunteer their services in any way possible.
El Balillo Bakery is hoping to lend another helping hand for flood victims by doing what they know best: Making pan dulce bread.

In response to a comment on its post, the bakery told one of its followers that the owner is in “an old jeep just trying to get where he can with the bakers in the back.”
Facebook followers made sure the bakery’s effort to provide food for flood victims didn’t go unnoticed.
A Facebook follower shared, “That’s amazing, it warms my heart to see this” with another user saying, “Please reward all their efforts (and) God Bless Them.”
The bakery’s kind gesture has now gone viral with its two posts collecting more than 4,000 likes and over 2,000 shares.
