Woman shot in front of her children at Orlando apartments, police say

Victim taken to ORMC with non-life-threatening injuries

ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman was shot Sunday night in front of her children at an Orlando apartment complex, police said.

The shooing was reported at the Eagle Summit Apartments at 2974 South Rio Grande Ave.

The Orlando Police Department said the woman, who is about 40 years old, was with a group of people whom she knew when a fight broke out around 6:30 p.m. and she was shot.

"I just heard the gunshot, then I heard people screaming. The girls, the mom, I just hear them screaming," said Erline Pierre-Louis, the victim's next-door neighbor.

Pierre-Louis said the victim's children were nearby when someone opened fire.

"I was scared," she said. "I don't know what happened, so I was just scared. I don't know if they're going to find the person who shot her."

Police said the woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

"It's kind of scary. You don't wanna come outside. Anything could happen," said Jamilah Anderson, who lives in the same complex. "I saw the cops outside, and I saw my little brother was outside, so I came out here and I came out here and I just seen all these cops."

Authorities are now looking for the shooter.
