Sinkhole opens in Orange County backyard, officials say

Hole estimated at 20-30 feet across, 13 feet deep

ORLANDO, Fla. – A large sinkhole opened Sunday in the backyard of an Orange County home, officials said.

Fire officials said crews were called to 5925 Harrington Drive in Orlando after the hole opened.

Orange County officials said the sinkhole, estimated at 20-30 feet across and 13 feet deep, has compromised the structural integrity of the home.

Electricity has been cut off to the home, which has been deemed unsafe.

Neighbor Michael Curley said the sinkhole is unfortunate for the family that lives in the affected home.

"They'd been there for a while, and that's just too bad that something like that happens to really good people," Curley said.

Officials have placed caution tape around the hole.

No other details have been released.
