OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is investigating the deaths of a couple in Kissimmee over the weekend as a double homicide, officials said.
Deputes were called to the home Saturday after a family member called for a well-being check.
The victims' bodies were found in their home Saturday night on Meadow Oak Circle, but authorities have not released their identification. On Monday, a spokesman for the Osceola County Sheriff's Office said their deaths are considered homicides.
Neighbors said a couple in their mid- to late 60s lived at the home. They’re from New York and travel there often to visit their daughter.
"I would like to know how it happened and who did it, you know, all the details, because the more you know, the more you can protect yourself and your family," said neighbor Jose Rivera. "They were always outside working on their yard, and they used to walk around the neighborhood and wave at everybody. Real friendly people."
"It’s shocking, because it’s such a quiet community," said neighbor Sandy Olivetto.
Neighbors on Monday evening reacted to the news that the deaths were isolated and not a random act. Investigators assured residents they did not have a reason to be concerned for their safety.
"That was a relief, you know, because at first I thought you — we have to take care of our family and look after them," Rivera said.
Despite detectives not saying how the man and woman were killed, neighbors said deputies were knocking on their door asking if gunshots were heard
Anyone with information is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
