Officers find 29-year-old woman with gunshot wound on Boy Scout Road

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 29-year-old woman was taken to a hospital after being found shot in a vehicle Thursday evening, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Apopka police went to the 2100 block of Boy Scout Road after reports of multiple gunshots in the area around 10:10 p.m.

Officials said officers found the woman in the vehicle, which had also been struck by bullets. 

According to deputies, the woman was on the phone with her friend when the shots were fired. When the friend heard the gunfire, she called 911 to report it.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, authorities said. She was in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.

Authorities said they are trying to determine if the woman was targeted or if the shooting was a random act.

Deputies said investigators later determined that the shooting had taken place within the Sheriff's Office's jurisdiction. Orange County officials took over the investigation.

Boy Scout Road was shut down after the shooting, but has since reopened.

No other information, including details about any possible suspects, was immediately available.
