Dollar General to pay workers to get COVID-19 vaccine

Dollar General is offering its workers an incentive to get a coronavirus vaccine: a bonus.

The chain said it will give workers a one-time payment equal to four hours of pay.

The company notes its hourly employees face hurdles to getting vaccinated, such as travel time, gas mileage and child care needs.

The company had 157,000 workers as of Oct. 30, 2020.

It called getting a vaccine a personal decision and said it will not require it.

Dollar General was deemed an essential retailer and has stayed open throughout the pandemic.

Dollar General isn’t the only employer offering such an incentive.

A Texas hospital system with more than 26,000 employees is offering a $500 bonus to workers for getting vaccinated.
