If you see ‘no U-turn’ and ‘U-turn yield to right turn’ signs, which is it?

Trooper Steve answers viewer questions

ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve Montiero answers viewer questions about the rules of the road every week, helping Orlando-area residents become better drivers by being better educated.

News 6 viewer JJ asked, “At Princeton Street and Orange Avenue, one sign says ‘no U-turn’ and another says (’U-turn yield to right turn’) ... which is it?”

After taking a look at this intersection, Trooper Steve said it appears someone has made a mistake.

“There are two signs located at this intersection. One sign indicates that you would be allowed to make a U-turn and the other indicates you should not make said U-turn. Although this can be very confusing, I would suggest that you look at the totality of the circumstances,” he said.

For instance, Trooper Steve says the intersection that JJ’s talking about is rather small to conduct a U-turn.

“Looking at this, it would appear that the ‘no U-turn’ sign was the last sign placed at this intersection and, with the sign being placed there, it would override any other signage,” he said.

Trooper Steve suggested to not make the U-turn at eastbound Princeton Street at Orange Avenue, adding he’s reached out to the city of Orlando in an attempt to remedy the situation.
