Teen accused of killing roommates denied bond after outburst in court

Damon Kemp, 19, charged with 2nd-degree murder

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Volusia County judge denied bond Sunday for a man accused of murdering his two roommates.

Damon Kemp, 19, remains behind bars, charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Daytona Beach police said Kemp was arrested Thursday after he was tied to an armed home invasion. Police said they learned he murdered his roommates, Trey Ingraham and Jordan Paden, both 19.

At his first appearance Sunday, Kemp was wheeled inside by guards while yelling out, "God." His facial expressions and his mood seemed off as a judge read his charges and his fate.

A judge found probable cause and appointed a public defender to represent Kemp at future hearings.

Ingraham’s family said he was an up-and-coming boxer in Daytona Beach and working to get back in school at Bethune Cookman University.

Family members told News 6 Ingraham was helping the suspect get back on his feet by letting him stay with him rent-free.

Nerissa Carter, Ingraham’s mother, was at the suspect's first appearance Sunday morning in tears.

"There is no answer as to why or how," Carter said. "Dads and moms need to hug their children, because you might get a phone call like we did, and you won’t get a chance to hear their voice anymore."

Kemp’s family members and friends were also in court and shed tears.
