MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A former Marion County sheriff's deputy has died in a car crash, according to authorities.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Tevyn Gadson, 22, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle north on County Road 331A at a high rate of speed when he struck the back of a golf cart.
Troopers said the golf cart went off the road and flipped on its side.
Gadson, who resigned from the Marion County Sheriff's Office in September, crossed a sidewalk and street before striking a utility pole, officials said. He was pronounced dead at University of Florida Health Gainesville.
Three people in the golf cart, Lawrence Heath, 20; Cedrick Brooks, 20; and Danielle Dallas, 18; all suffered serious injuries in the crash, officials said.
"We are extremely saddened by this news and on behalf of Sheriff Chris Blair and the men and women of the Sheriff's Office, we offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time," the Marion County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
