Shooter calls police after wounding man near Orlando school, officials say

Police investigate shooting near Michael McCoy Elementary

A man is shot near an Orlando gas station and school.

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was shot Monday morning at an Orlando gas station and school, police said.

The shooting was reported at 5:15 a.m. at 5405 S. Semoran Blvd., near a RaceTrac gas station and Michael McCoy Elementary School.

Orlando police said the man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police said the man is not cooperating with the investigation.

The shooter called police, met with officers and is cooperating with the investigation, officials said.

No other details, including what led to the shooting, have been released.

Michael McCoy Elementary was not affected by the shooting, which occurred before school started, according to Orange Public Schools.

An investigation is ongoing.
