Victims suffer non-life-threatening injuries

Two juveniles were shot Monday morning near a church in Winter Garden, according to police.

The double shooting was reported around 1 a.m. near the Church of Christ at East Bay and 9th streets.

Winter Garden police said the victims were shot along Bay Street, then ran to a house on Klondike Street. Officers believe one of the victims lives at the home, which was struck by a bullet.

Multiple shell casings were also found on Bay Street.

According to police, the victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Pastor Xerxes Snell with the Church of Christ At Nine Street woke up to the news of gun violence Monday.

“It was just shocking to hear just ringing in the year 2021 that once again we are dealing violence in this community especially among the youth,” Snell said.

Snell has been a pastor at the church for two decades.

“We want to do everything that we possibly can to ensure that we can live in a better society, in a better community. The challenge is going to be great, but we are going to do it. We have to,” he said.

No other details, including information about the suspected shooter, have been released.

Anyone with information about the double shooting can call Crimeline at 800-423 TIPS.
