Wanted: Deputies search for man who beat woman’s car with baseball bat in Marion County

Actions recorded on gas station camera; investigators seeking driver

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County investigators are offering a cash reward for help identifying a man who followed a woman to a gas station and then beat her car with a baseball bat following a traffic incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, following a traffic-related encounter the man in the video followed another driver to the gas station then went elsewhere to get another car and his baseball bat.

The driver returned to the gas station in a blue Ford Mustang and was recorded walking up to the victim’s car still at the pump and beating her car with the bat. Deputies say he also yelled obscenities at the victim during the attack.

“This guy got into a traffic incident with the victim and let road rage take over. He followed her to her destination, got out of the car and yelled obscenities at her. Instead of deciding to be a decent person by just going home and staying there,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post. “He went somewhere, changes his vehicle and comes back, pulling into the gas station where the victim was attempting to get gas. He then puffs out his chest, and attacks the victim at the gas station with a bat; smashing in her windows.”

The victim drove away as the man continued to try and hit her car with the bat, according to the video.

Using the video from the incident, deputies are hoping to identify the man “before he attacks someone else,” according to the post.

Anyone who can help identify the man or his vehicle is asked to call 352-732-9111 or submit a tip anonymously to the Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP (7867). Tips can also be submitted at www.ocalacrimestoppers.com.

Tipsters with information leading to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward.
